Can I use frozen peas to make a nice thick slow cooker pea soup?
I have two big bags of frozen peas in my freezer my daughter will not eat any longer. Is there a way to use my crock pot to make pea soup out of them?

no…you need split dry peas
well this isnt split pea soup but here is one
1 tablespoon butter
1 carrot, peeled and diced
2-3 scallions, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon flour
1 (13 ounce) can evaporated skim milk
1/2 cup chicken broth
1 (10 ounce) package frozen baby peas, thawed
1-2 tablespoon dry sherry
minced fresh parsley
lemon slices

1. In a 2-quart saucepan, melt butter and saute carrot and scallions.
2. Add flour and cook, stirring, until foamy.
3. Add the evaporated milk and the broth and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.
4. Add peas, reduce heat, and simmer until carrots are tender, about 6-8 minutes.
5. Whirl the soup in a blender, a portion at a time, until smooth.
6. Return puree to the pan, stir in the sherry to taste, and heat through.
7. Serve hot or cold, float a lemon slice on each bowl of soup and sprinkle some parsley over.
i suppose so–i would toss them into a regular pot though not a slow cooker…just add them to some sauteed onions and chopped carrots and then add a few cans of chicken stock and cook until they are soft. Take out half the soup and puree in blender then add back to whole batch to thicken and leave chunky..or puree the whole pot for smoother soup..Just remember, frozen peas tend to be very sweet –not like split pea soup—so season accordingly.
I would make vegetable soup in my slow cooker. I would add some other starchy vegetables like potatoes and frozen corn. You can add a little bit of instant mashed potatoes to thicken it up too.

It is usually made from split dry peas but I see no reason not to throw these in the cooker and use them up that should work too. Add in water, some salt and black pepper and chunks of ham and bacon too with some chopped onion and slow cook it until a almost creamy consistency. Let us know how it comes out.
