Can I use artificial sweetener to substitute for sugar in a cake that would usually use sugar?

I have someone who is diabetic in my family, and I’m making a birth day cake for them. I’m going to be making a cake that would normally use sugar, but they can’t eat it, because of diabetes. If I make a cake that would normally use sugar, can I use Equal or Splenda instead?

im not sure about equal but my family has been using spenda for diabetic food for a long time and the taste is the same

I have used splenda in baking and it has worked out great.

you can use splenda and the package will give you the correct substitution amounts too

happy birthday!!!

Use Splenda baking blend. It is part sugar and part Splenda. Go to the Splenda website and get recipes that use Splenda. Often, trying to substitute Splenda in a regular recipe results in a not very good product. Sugar is a moistening agent in baked products and its chemical reaction is what makes a cake a cake.
Many of the Splenda recipes are O.K. for diabetics, but as with all foods, moderation is the key.

yes I use Splenda for baking its great

Do not use Equal for baking. It gets bitter if heated. Splenda works great, though. The cake won’t be quite as brown when it is done. Otherwise you will hardly notice any difference.

SPLENDA

Or you can get the Sam’s Choice kind found at WalMart, it is cheaper.

Remember there can be a problem if you are on a medication for high blood pressure. Splenda has been identified in a university study as a blocker of blood pressure medication. So if you are on blood pressure medication, consult your doctor before using Splenda.
