Can I substitute margarine or unsalted butter for shortening?

I am making a type of bread. The recipe I’m using calls for shortening. Salt will be added. Can I substitute margarine or unsalted butter for the shortening? If I add margarine, should I omit the salt?

I’d substitute the butter. Margarine has water in it too

Yes, but your bread won’t rise as high, if you want it higher than 3 inches, use shortening.

Bread can be a very touchy thing to make. Always go by the recipe to have the best loaf. There is to much work in it not to have the very best.

yes it wont rise as well and note never use margarine in anything its full of trans fatty acids that can block omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids ( the good kind)
