Can I feed my rats lunch meat?
Hi, I have read that rats are omnivores and that they can indeed eat meat. I have some lunch meat, turkey meat to be exact, that I want to feed my rats. Is it safe?
My rats current diet is Pellets, millet, rolled oats, bananas, celery, apples, lettuce, broccoli, and on occasion (about every 4-5 days) they will get a small portion of yogurt. All of this food isn’t fed to them every day, and I don’t feed them anything but pellets every other day or so.
Thanks for your help. A food list would also help a lot

I wouldn’t suggest it because i fed my rat some ham and he had really bad diarrhea.
*Laughs* I just gave mine some turkey meat, they loved it (as usual). Yes it is safe for them, the general rule is “If we can eat it, they can” and in this case it is definitely true.
A food list for what, what you can feed rats?
Here is a short of what is almost endless list
Hope I helped
As an occasional snack it should be ok. However, lunch meats are overly processed and junk food even for people. They contain a lot of fat, preservatives, salt, etc. Actual cuts of meat are far better and healthier for your rat, but also only feed these in moderation.
Don’t see any problem with this, in moderation. Processed packaged lunch meats aren’t all that great even for humans … maybe try some fresh cut meat at the deli .. the amount you’re feeding your pet is relatively small so not going to be expensive … probably less than packaged. Site below has info on rats .. feed, care, handling. Also has good links to other rat sites you may find interesting.
