Can diabetics eat falafel?
This may sound completely ignorant, so forgive me if it does. I’m having a guest stay with me next week who has type 1 diabetes, and I want to make sure that he doesn’t feel rude by refusing anything I make to eat.
So, my question is Can a type one diabetic eat falafel without having it spike their blood sugar level? I know chickpeas are fine to serve (the main ingredient of falafel), I’m just uncertain if it would be bad since falafel is cooked in olive oil before being served. I would rather just make something altogether if he can’t eat it.

I DONT KNOW WHAT FALAFEL IS, BUT YOU SAY THE MAIN INGREDIENT IS CHICK PEAS. THATS FINE.
OH AND ITS NOT FATS THAT SPIKES A DIABETICS BLOOD SUGAR ie the olive oil. ITS CARBOHYDRATES THAT DO IT TO US. LIKE BREADS, PASTA, POTATOES, AND SWEETS OBVIOUSLY.
ADDED~I JUST GOOGLED WHAT FALAFEL IS AND YES YOUR FRIEND CAN EAT IT. JUST IN MODERATION BECAUSE OF THE BREADING/PITA.
ALSO YOU MAY WANT TO SIMPLY ASK HIM WHAT IS OK FOR HIM TO EAT OR WHAT HE PREFERS. HE WONT GET OFFENDED.
it’s ok both my sister, my mom and me are diabetics. and we go to a place called Felafel King. DELICIOUS! well, my point is that yes, diabetics can eat felafel.
Just for your reference, if he is Type I there shouldn’t be anything that he is absolutely forbidden to eat, because he should know how to adjust his insulin level to cover his food. There may be certain things that he prefers not to eat, because he knows that they affect him in weird ways, and he will probably not want large amounts of sweets or regular soda, but that’s about it.
Falafel is perfectly fine–as someone above said, it’s not fat that diabetics must plan for, but rather things like pure sugar or simple carbohydrates. If there’s anything you’re not sure of, just ask him! You’re a good friend for making sure that he stays comfortable and healthy.
Well, after a little research, I see that not only can we eat it… it’s darned good for us. So, yes… absolutely
Yes, unless there’s some other reason why he would not be able to eat falafel (ie, an unrelated allergy) it is perfectly fine for him to eat it.
You’re a very kind person for going an extra mile to make sure that he’s welcome!
