Can anyone explain the difference between spread, butter, and margarine?
Usually I can’t tell the difference specially between butter and spread, unless its unsalted. What is the difference? What about margarine? I rarely cook, so I’m not an expert when it comes to this stuff. Which one is the best when it comes to cooking and baking? I have SMART BALANCE SPREAD w/ Flax Oil, can I use this for baking? I bought it because it sounds like healthier than the rest. Thanks!

Margarine is made with oil…butter is made with milk fat(cream)
Butter is made from cream. Margarine is made from different types of oil. Spreads are often a blend of margarine and some kind of dairy, like butter or buttermilk. Real butter is much better for baking. There are a few things (like snickerdoodles) that margarine or spreads work OK in , but I use butter.
