In a cool place should be fine – Drawers
Where u store your can food, instant noodles, can be used to store rice too

My husband is part Japanese so we eat a lot of rice. I think the quality of the rice does matter. Also, where you buy it. Make sure it's not coming from a grocery where it has already been sitting on a shelf for a year. We are fond of Botan. It comes in a white sack with a red rose as the logo. We keep our rice in a glass commercial size candy container and have never had a bug problem. But we go thru 1/2 lb per week. The fridge or freezer will add moisture which can be deadly to rice.

buy an airtight storage canister. big mason jars or other containers with air tight tops work perfectly. i would think that the moisture in the air in the fridge would not be good for it...
