Bare Knuckle Training
I’ve read that Bare Knuckle Fighters used to soak their hands in Walnut oil-juice to toughen the hands. Is there any logic and value to this or were they just experiments?

Hey my man! Those classic training methods and ideas used by bareknuckle warriors ABSOLUTELY work! I myself during Wing Chun training used Walnut Juice and Brine to toughen up my fists “which of course are very feminine genetically”. The training I went through was on a “Chinese Wooden Man” which I actually still train with every morning by the way. The Walnut Juice over time makes the skin “leather hard” and also strengthens the soft tissues. It also was used by bareknuckle fighters to eventually promote strong bone density as well. The one drawback to elements like brine however is that it can definitely darken or discolor the skin.
More often than not, if the unbelievably tough Pugilists of the 19th century had a method to stay tough. You’d better believe it was a REAL method to stay tough. A livelihood where at one time ONLY the TRULY STRONG survived could not afford a lot of learning curves!
EXCELLENT QUESTION MY DEAR FRIEND!
