any tips/help on becoming vegetarian?
I’ve been trying to become a vegetarian (my real goal is vegan), but the thing is…I’m surrounded by people who love to eat meat and other foods that contain animal products living under the same roof. Now, I’m not fighting temptations or cravings here, my “taste” for meat is pretty non-existent, but it’s hard when the people around me have a diet heavy in processed things and not much fruit, vegetables, legumes…etc and it’s the only thing I am provided with for a meal. Even as I’ve stated my choice to become vegetarian (and reasons why) there’s no understanding. I want to go completely vegan but as you see it’s nearly impossible when still living with my family. Also, it’s not like I’m forcing them to become vegetarians either…
so, any advice please?
(I tried to keep this short so if you have any questions, ask away…)
okay king carrot, yes I do love them.
kRnky: yes I know that. I’m NOT eating meat, eating whatever vegetables I can find inside the fridge, and I’m avoiding everything with animal products as much as possible, you havent answered my question because I already know, the thing is what do I do when I cant seem to find vegan/vegetarian things to eat.
Beth: THANKS!

Learn how to enjoy the wholesome goodness of carrots. Carrots are nutritionally complete and cure most ailments.
Do you know how many times I have answered this exact same question? …alot.
Step 1: stop eating meat
Step 2: get veggie meat
Step 3: be vegan (stop eating and using animal products. that includes honey, most people donn’t know that)
One key to eating veg/vegan at home around meat-eaters is to always keep other things around you can eat. Come up with delicious side dishes they can’t resist, then just eat your side dishes and theirs if they are veg. Example: go through the cabinets and see what you have to work with. Canned veggies and beans are your best friends in a case like yours. I’m the only veg-head at my house too, but I’m the cook.
Example: open and drain a can of any kind of beans, a can of any vegetable, cut up a green onion or bell pepper if you have it, a little of whatever seasonings you like, and toss in a bit of Italian dressing. It’s best chilled. Another one: boil some pasta (whole wheat is best) and add a can of tomatoes and heat through, with a little garlic, onion powder and crushed red pepper flakes. Get to know your spice cabinet too. Keep it simple till you get them all hooked. Let them eat their meat and butter, get some soy butter for yourself, its wonderful. Use liquid smoke and a bit of olive oil in beans for that (smoked ham) flavor. Learn to make hummus and tabbouleh that they won’t be able to resist. Some of the soy cheeses are good but most dishes are just a good without cheese, believe it or not. And chili is just as good without the meat.
Good luck and hang in there!
