A couple of food and red bottom questions for you. Please help?
My daughter is almost 8 months old. I gave her a “meat” babyfood for the first time yesterday afternoon. ( Note: I am planning to start making all her baby food soon but I have a bunch of jar foods to use up before as I don’t want them to go to waste.) It was Beechnut Turkey and sweet potatoes. She has had sweet potatoes many times before with no problems. However, last night she had a big poop (as usual) and it happened during her father’s visitation. I had left him alone with her to play on the floor for a while so I could catch up on some much needed chores and to give him a little time alone with her. They played for about 1 1/2 hours, with me around but not close enough to my daughter to smell a poop. (Sometimes they are a lot worse than others, LOL). Anyway, after about an hour and a half Avary started fussing a lot and her father said he thought she wanted mommy so I cam in and took her for a minute. She reeked of poop! I said, oh my god, you didn’t notice she had pooped!? He said, um… no I didn’t smell anything. Avary was very tired so I hinted that he should leave so I could put her down for the night (It was almost 9 PM anyway – her bedtime). So he left and I laid her on the bed to change her. I have no idea how long she had been sitting in her poop (anywhere from fifteen minutes to an hour and a half, but her little bottom was so bright red I was horrified. And she cried really hard like it hurt her when I cleaned her up. When she was clean and dry I put on some Butt Paste and the diaper and she settled down. This morning the redness was almost gone. Then after her poopie today her bottom was a bit red again but not tender like last night and the redness mostly went away throughout the day.
I know that was long but I appreciate your sticking with me. So my question is, could the extra redness have been from introducing the meat to her yesterday for the first time or do you think it was just from her father’s stupidity for not changing her poopie diaper right away and making her sit in it for a while? I fed her the other half of the jar of sweet potatoes and turkey today for lunch and so far, there is still a little redness when she poops but nowhere near what there was last night.
Also, when did you introduce your little one to meats and did they have any extra redness on their little bottom after you introduced it? Should I hold off on meats for another month or two and then try again? Please… any advice or past experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance!

WHEW that was long…..I think maybe a mixture of both, sometimes after I introduce a new food to Sarah she gets the red “burn” bottom..happen after raspberries & a Chicken & carrot dinner ( had a jar left over , I mostly make her food) . She cried HARD with it too…and I notice if I dont get to it in time it got real bad…I did this for about 3 days , was give her a warm bath with some baking soda in the bath, not much..but it will kill the bacteria. washed her bottom real good…got her dry, put some cream on it, and then some cornstarch. Made sure I changed her AS SOON AS SHE PEE’d and let her air dry a bit, then cream & cornstarch.
You can try the meat again, and see what happens, like all foods there is going to be a slight reaction if the baby is not used to it. If it happens again, I say lay off of it for awhile, maybe she just isnt ready just yet for the meat….and I hope Daddy doesnt let that happen again.
im sure its from the dirty diaper. keep some ointment on her at all times and let her skin air out and dry before putting a new diaper on her. You can also try an oatmeal bath aveno makes it its just little packets of fine ground oatmeal that you add to the bath water and it helps with all kinds of skin problems.
I don’t think the redness is something that you should worry about ( regarding allergies). Some foods just cause a little redness on those sensitive butts. Maybe her poops is a tiny bit more acidic with the new food. I think you’re ok to keep giving it to her unless you start to notice other things ( constipation , rashes, fussiness).
I start my little one at meats at 7 months. At that point she decided she didn’t like pureed food and has been eating ” table ” foods every since. It wasn’t my plan to start so early, but it was hers! lol… Everything I have known says that means are ok around the 8th month. You can give chicken, pork, beef and lamb but save the fish and seafood for one year.
I hope this helps! Sounds like you’re doing a great job!
Well,Im 11,I don’t have a baby.
It was Dad’s stupidity. Sorry to say, you are going to have to check in on her more frequently when he is visiting. Poor little tushie!
