Damn! I’m jealous!!!
half a pizza, mars bars, and the chips will have to go if you’re eating them EVERY DAY. these will hinder your healthy lifestyle. however, the rest of it seems good! just remember, if theres days where youre not working out, cut your caloric intake just a bit. otherwise, keep it up!
“Half a pizza” doesn’t sound very healthy. Is it a regular restaurant pizza or is it something you’ve created with whole-grain dough, low-fat cheese, and veggies and lean meats?
The 1/4 loaf of bread, even whole-grain, isn’t such a healthy choice.
You also mentioned some dairy products — cheese, yogurt, and milk. Lowfat?
Your diet is much healthier than the average. Definitely.
You already know the answer to the edited info about the Mars bars and chips . . . There are some alternatives to regular potato chips that are actually quite healthy. In the organic section of my local grocery store, there are chips that are not only baked, but made from vegetables like beets, sweet potatoes, etc. They are salted with sea salt, too. If you’re eating regular potato chips, read the label. You may never put another one in your mouth if you do.
If you truly want to be healthy, you should probably not eat so much cheese and pizza. Cheese is good because its a diary, but its also high in fat. Same goes for pizza, its got a lot of fat in it, especially if it has pepperoni on it. The same goes for the bread. Bread is made of refined grains so its a simple carb. Your body will digest it quick and you will feel hungry again soon. Better to eat whole grains. Eat steel cut oatmeal with berries, eat brown rice, lentils, barley, quinoa. If you eat these whole grains (and veggies too), you wont need all that bran. All these grains are so much better sources of carbs for you. They will slowly release energy, which you will need for your long runs. As for the orange juice, if you eat the orange, you get the benefit of the fibre in the orange. The nuts are good, they are a good source of monounsaturated fats. These fats prevent plaque from sticking to your arteries (plaque you can get from eating too much pizza). Anyway, good luck!
You seem to be a pretty healthy, growing guy!
I would add legumes and soy to your diet. Stay away from processed cheese and make most of it low fat cottage cheese. Mix up the fruit to have a combo (bananas, berries, apples, melons, etc) to get the full benefits. As well as your veggies, go more with the green ones. Perhaps a 1/4 of a pizza w/ a yummy salad or steamed veggies. Baked pita crisps or veggie chips are a good alternative to crisps.
Carbs are an important part of a diet. Carbs = Energy. But, also = Sugar. As that is how they are broken down in the body. Go with complex ones in conjuction with your bran and fiber (soluble & insoluble).
When you cut back on simple carbs and high fructose fruits and juices, you’ll notice you wont crave them as much and wont have other cravings for candy and such. But it is always good for the spirit to indulge once in a while.
