1 year old with milk allergy or intolerance? Any other moms dealing with this? Please help?

My daughter developed pnuemonia after I introduced her to cow’s milk a few weeks back. My pediatrician wasn’t sure if it was triggered by the milk or not, or if it was a coincidence that they occured at the same time. I was instructed to give her formula until she was 100% better. I have done this. She is back to normal now. No wheezing or coughing. A few days ago I began to try to introduce the milk again. I started with 1/4 of the bottle being milk and the rest formula. She did fine. Now I’ve bumped it to 1/2 of the bottle milk. After about 1 hour of feeding her she woke up coughing and having the mucusy wheezing again! The doc said if it happened again we could try lactose free and if that doesn’t work maybe soy milk. Has anyone else ever experienced this? What type of “milk” did you end up giving your child? I also wondered if goats milk or rice milk would be another option. Also, her formula is a cow’s milk based, so why doesn’t that cause the same reaction?
Also, we’ve had some allergy testing done via a skin test, and it didn’t show any milk allergy – only eggs.

I’m having the same problem. My daughter ended up puking and having a hard time sleeping after we tryed her on a small bit of cows milk. She is on soy formula now.. but the doctor said she wasn’t intolerant to milk but the hospital just put her on it because they thought they knew best. She told me to keep trying till she gets it but i’m worried about it and i’m even switching doctors! Sorry i can’t help. I hope someone gives you a great answer though!

My daughter would get very mucusy after breast or formula milk (too young for cows milk) and kind of ” refluxed” all this mucus from her stomach and it would clog her airways and she would not be able to breathe. Doctors didnt believe me,so i never figured out the reason for this. I changed her to Soy based formula, and she never had one of these episodes again. at 18 months switched her from soy formula to soy milk ( minimum age for soy milk is 18 months). She is 3 now and can drink milk fine. Then when my son was born he was diagnosed as lactose intolerant, we gave him a lactose free formula but now he is 18 months and drinks cow milk fine! it is so confusing and stressful trying to find what is best for your baby. Good Luck
